Conditions for renting a car or van

If you want to rent a car from C C Hire, you will need to adhere to the conditions on this page. This helps us to make the transaction as quick and simple as possible. We serve customers throughout Colchester.

Find out if you qualify

To qualify you must be between 25 and 69 years of age. As a driver you must have regularly driven for 2 years or more on a full UK drivers licence. Some previous experience of driving the type of vehicle being hired is also necessary. Any licence with an endorsement for speeding and technical offences will be considered. An HGV licence is not required. Each driver will be required to complete an insurance form.

Identification you will need

In addition to the drivers licence, we need to carry out an online driving history check. You will need to either tell us your National Insurance Number or print off the document yourself by going to www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence. You must also have proof of current address posted to you within the last 6 weeks prior to your rental. When in the process of moving to a new address, verification of this must be provided.

What other conditions should you be aware of?

Insurance
Fully Comprehensive Insurance is included. (subject to excess)
The customer`s liability for any loss or damage is £750 for cars and vans, £1000 for 7.5 ton box vans and 9 seaters. This applies to each and every incident resulting in loss or damage to the hired vehicle, or other person's property.

Extra cover reduces your damage liability down to £200. However, damage caused by carelessness, incompetence, and any illegal activity shall remain the responsibility of the hirer. This includes all overhead damage.
Cancellations
Apart from our 9 seaters, vehicle hires can be cancelled without charge by giving a minimum of 48 hours' notice. Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice will incur a charge of half the hire vehicle rental unless we are able to book the vehicle to another party.

Deposits and payment

A deposit plus the cost of the car rental must be paid on or before collection of the vehicle. If you decide not to accept the extra cover insurance, we will need to hold an increased deposit. This would be equal to the excess. Either the deposit or the rental must be paid by debit or credit card in the name of the hirer.

A Vehicle booking cannot be confirmed until a deposit has been paid.

A deposit equal to the insurance excess is normally blocked on the customers credit or debit card this is automatically released after a few days provided that no damage, loss or further charges have incurred during the hire period. (further details on request).
